Foods to Avoid while preparing for an Examination

imgI am writing about foods you should not eat during your examination period or when your
examination is approaching because some of my friends and fans, who are preparing for Post-UTME screening and GCE. Some of our email followers also asked if there are foods that can hinder their concentration, brain functions and exam performances.

I thought about sharing what i knew, so i made some researches and got some tips from foodsng.com.

4 Foods that you should not take during Exams
!’ Avoid taking things containing alcohol
During the examination period, try as much as possible to stay away from too much alcohol. It has negative effects on many organs in our body, even the brain. When your drink much alcohol and it gets to the brain, it disables function by damaging the connective tissue at the end of neurons, called dendrites. With some of these dendrites damaged, there is the disruption of communication among neurons, it becomes difficult for cells to talk to one another and makes it harder for an individual to focus or complete minor tasks including reading and understanding. However, our bodies do a good job by repairing this if we stay off alcohol for some period afterwards.

!’ Avoid heavy Foods & Junks
During exams, we want to save as much time as possible on other things so that we can have enough time to revise. This would make you escape cooking and snack on whatever come across, especially junk foods. Students that eat junk food for breakfast during the term would more likely do same during exam time when they are stressed or tired. These food are usually low in amino acids and important nutrients and concentrating on them during exams will result in low levels of serotonin, dopamine and epinephrine. This leaves students with lowered mood, concentration levels and a reduced ability to transfer learning to long-term memory.

!’ Stay away from Coffee
While a cup of coffee a day can actually be beneficial and help you stay and feel more awake, you have to know that too much coffee is certainly bad for you. During days in college, I had friends that would drink coffee without sugar or milk, because they wanted to read. Many of them still ended up not getting good grades as those of us that did not. The caffeine present in coffee may help you stay up, focused, stay alert,but it can also trick your body into thinking its not hungry. At some point, it could make the mind to become groggy and unable to absorb the material as well.
!’ Don t try new foods
Students may just want to grab whatever food in their reach during exams and eat in order to avoid cooking. You don t want to surprise yourself on the examination day with stomach troubles or any form of sickness as a result of food. For example, we said that beans can make you fart and disturb your stomach. Even though there is a way to cook it so that it doesn t make you fart, you may not know this if you have not been eating beans before.
